For prospective travelers, the best way to arrive on the island of San Pedro is by booking a flight with either Maya Island Air or Tropic Air. Both airlines offer similarly priced flights that provide a quick and scenic journey from the mainland, landing you conveniently right in the town center of San Pedro. This is a great way to start your island adventure with ease and efficiency!
While taking the water taxi to San Pedro can seem like a cost-saving option, it does come with some downsides, especially after a long flight from the States. First, you’ll need to take a taxi from the airport to the water taxi terminal in Belize City, which adds time, coordination, and extra cost to your journey. The ride itself can be long and bumpy, potentially uncomfortable after hours of travel. While the scenic approach may appeal to some, I don’t find the savings worth the extra effort and fatigue—but to each their own!
However, when it comes to exploring and sightseeing, taking the water taxi is one of the best ways to experience the beauty of the neighboring islands and the mainland. It offers a unique chance to soak in stunning views of the Caribbean waters while providing flexibility to hop between destinations for shopping, dining, and exploring. Whether you’re visiting Caye Caulker, other nearby spots, or making trips to the mainland, this mode of travel truly brings the island-hopping experience to life. In my opinion, it’s the perfect blend of convenience, adventure, and spectacular scenery!
